Over the summer holidays, AllChange has delivered another successful BCreative programme of four projects, co-produced by young female artists aged 16-19, including women with disabilities.
The programme, funded by the City of London Corporation, has bridged the summer learning break, introducing young women to new experiences and opportunities, and helping them develop skills and confidence.
We’ve worked together with the City of London Corporation and The Mayor’s Fund for London to open new opportunities for children and young people experiencing poverty and inequality in Islington.
“Summer Enrichment funding enabled us to really push the ambition of our summer project with young women. We worked with some extraordinary artists and partners – including Culture Mile London, Autograph ABP and Apple. The work the young women created was exceptional and really made audiences stand up and take notice of their ideas and opinions, at a time when it is especially important for the world to hear them,” said AllChange.
The young participants have been inspired. As one of them put it,
The young women took part in photography and arts activism sessions, as well as uplifting dance classes with local arts partners like Candoco Dance Company, Furtherfield and Autography ABP.
At the end of the summer-long activities, they performed at two venues in a mini-festival that gathered large crowds in east and central London.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time participating in the ‘Change the Conversation’ project at Autograph. I have got to know a load of different people, heard about the things that are most important to them and acted on them in the form of a protest at the end of the week. When I am participating in the All Change projects, I feel like my opinion matters and it is a safe space to discuss them freely’, said another All Change participant.
