The summer holidays are fast approaching. While some families will have booked exciting travel and activity plans, for many other families struggling to make ends meet summer can feel like an expensive, sometimes stressful, gap in the school calendar.
Research has found that pupils from all backgrounds make comparable achievement gains during the school year, but a gap opens during the long summer holiday. This is in part because pupils experiencing socio-economic disadvantage are more likely to experience summer learning loss and even hunger.
That’s why we’re working with the City of London Corporation and The Mayor’s Fund for London to support a summer enrichment programme, opening new opportunities for children and young people experiencing poverty and inequality in Islington.
Our partners at Global Generation will be opening doors at the Skip Garden site in King’s Cross, welcoming children, young people, and their families to a range of fun, educational food and nature workshops. All Change will use funding to expand its successful B Creativeprogramme, which offers a range of inspiring activities for young women aged 16-19.
