Saiqa joined the Board of Governors in December 2022 as a Local Authority Governor. Saiqa is an elected Labour councillor in Islington, having won a seat to represent the ward of St Mary’s & St James. Being a lifelong Islington resident, Saiqa is passionate about helping the community she grew up in. She is particularly interested in empowering marginalised communities, such as BAME and women’s groups.

Saiqa works for a family support charity called Home-Start Camden & Islington. After volunteering with Home-Start Camden in the early 2000s, Saiqa went on to work for the charity and has been a family support coordinator for the last 15 years. In the last few years she has been responsible for the rollout of the service in Islington, ensuring that the vital work Homestart does in the community is accessible for Islington residents.

Saiqa is an active member of the community at large, often attending and partaking in local group events. She is also a trustee of Islington People’s Rights.
