Cripplegate Foundation’s statement on the recent demonstrations – September 2025

Our vision for Islington is of an equal borough where everyone can enjoy a life free from poverty and access the many opportunities on offer in their local area.

Cripplegate Foundation’s statement on the recent demonstrations – September 2025

Since the recent demonstrations in London, we’ve heard colleagues, partner organisations, neighbours and friends express the fear they and their families have experienced. It’s heart-breaking that people have felt they’ve have had to stay at home, warn friends to be careful, or explain to their kids why they can’t go out.

We’ve also spoken with many community groups here in Islington about the deep effects these actions are having on the people they work with, and people’s growing sense of unease.

Islington is a Borough of Sanctuary, and Cripplegate Foundation is proud to stand with all the people and communities who make Islington the vibrant, welcoming place it is. Together, we will always choose solidarity, care, and hope over hate.

We will continue to work with our community partners to monitor the situation, provide space to talk, and look for collective ways forward.
